Yesterday was already the 4th episode of DayCamp4Developers, titled “Business 101″. The whole conference was focussed on running your internet technology business with 6 great speakers: Lorna Jane Mitchel, Jacques Woodcock, Thursday Bram, Tara Aaron, John Mertic and Paul M. Jones.
First things first: it was a great conference organized by my dear friend Cal Evans and the beauty is that this conference is completely online! Thanks Cal for organizing this kind of conference as it brings knowledge closer and affordable to everyone. And thanks to the sponsors Cal is able to set it up. So if you’re a business, think about supporting this conference as it offers so much information for everyone working in the internet industry.
With Lorna’s talk “Time and Money” I was immediately introduced to new tools like Harvest to keep track of my time, but I also got a confirmation I was doing a good job managing my tasks in my calendar.
Jacques’ talk “So you want to be self employed” was a great talk I want to see on stage at a Tech conference somewhere as Jacques could bring this subject in such a way you kept listening and forgot to make notes. And I agree with him, being an entrepreneur requires you to seize opportunities and take some risks.
Thursday’s talk “Planning your business for the long term” was an interesting talk that emphasized the importance of thinking ahead and plan how your business is going to evolve.
Most impressive talk was given by Tara called “Put it in writing”. She was a non-technical speaker, and had a hard challenge talking about contracts, legal issues and agreements. But she did a magnificent job! Even though this talk was focussed on the US market, there were a lot of pointers given that are valuable international.
John’s talk about “Is it good for the company” was a great talk with a lot of references to Office Space.
Closing the day was Paul’s talk about “Career and Life Management” where the topic was raised about insurances, task management and combining career with a personal life.
All by all this conference shared a lot of wisdom and knowledge, provided by great speakers.
